Real time ads?

The Minnesota Post has created (they are in beta right now) a new platform for displaying real time advertising. The article mentions a restaurant being able to post a lunch special and then later posting a dinner one. And it is set up to allow feeds like from Twitter or Facebook so the business doesn’t have to update in several different places. I can see how this might be a way for some newspapers and media companies to see a ROI on social media.

I used to work for an alternative weekly paper and over the years, plenty of people commented that they liked to see what businesses were advertising and what their ads looked like. Not the same way people enjoy the editorial content, but I think it’s safe to say some people enjoy ads. I know personally, I’ve always enjoyed looking at the classified ads in papers whether or not I was shopping or job hunting.

What do you think? Would you log in every day (or every day or so) to see what ads, specials, coupons, etc. that businesses want to promote?

What are my ISP options?

Goodbye Mac – Hello PC

So, I’m losing my Mac Mini today. And I’m gaining a PC. I’ve used PCs before, but I don’t really use them anymore. My laptop at home is a PC, but my next one surely won’t be. You see, the system I will be using for Classifieds entry and billing has to run on a PC, and, since that’s what I do, I’ll have to use one. My boss and friend really did lobby for me to get to keep my Mac and have software added that runs Windows but they said “no”. I’m pretty bummed about it. I love Macs now. They really are so much more user friendly. I’m sure it won’t be a big deal and I’ll be just as comfortable after I use Windows again for a while, but still, I’m gonna miss my mini Mac.

Long Time, No Post

Well I haven’t posted in a while. I was away from a computer for several days (which is good). We went over to Sapphire, NC for the weekend. Well actually, Sapphire was just our home-base. B’s parents are building a house in Seneca, SC so we went to see their lot and take a boat ride. His brother is also building, but in Anderson, SC, so we went there too to see their future home site. Both are really nice lots and I’m sure will soon have awesome homes on them. I was a bit envious after looking over everyone’s building plans. It would be nice to design a house from the ground up as his parents have. His brother is building a custom home, but they are using pre-designed plans and are tweaking them to their specifications. His parents literally designed the entire house. How fun!

After we left Anderson, we went over to Greenville. I hadn’t been before, but loved it. There’s a river and a park that is smack-dab in the center of the city! It was beautiful and so many people were out enjoying it. Kids were splashing around, dogs were playing, ducks were swimming and playing. It was just beautiful. I just stood there on this suspension bridge for about 20 minutes just staring at it all. So peaceful. We were just there to walk around for a little while and then to have dinner, but I really would LOVE to go back. With B’s entire family moving to the area, I’m guessing we’ll have plenty of time to see more of Greenville!

Bindlestiff Family Cirkus

So I’m going to the Cirkus tonight! I don’t really know what to think about it, but the description reminded me of the Yard Dogs Road Show, which I love. Here’s the description that I got:

“Come one, come all to the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Magic Hat Summer Variety Show!, The troupe that has been called “the punk rock of the big top” brings their saucy, sexy, and death-defying acts to the Bijou Theatre on Wednesday, July 11 at 8 pm. How can I convert my iTunes ACC files to an MP3? I am finding plenty of options for Windows users but I’m on a Mac. Any ideas, dear readers?
